Baseball defeats PV to open two-game set

Scottsdale baseball held off a late push to earn a 5-4 road victory over Paradise Valley.

Scottsdale is now 16-16 overall and 10-11 in the ACCAC.

The Artichokes came out fast, scoring twice in the first inning before adding another run in the third to build a 3-1 lead. PV chipped away and used a three-run sixth inning to take the lead, but Scottsdale responded with runs in the seventh and eighth to reclaim the lead for good.

Braiden Reynolds led the offensive effort, going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Luke Calendo and Brevin Matthews also drove in runs, while Braden Burness added two hits.

Logan Spetz (3-1) earned the win in relief, tossing 3.0 shutout innings and allowing just two hits while striking out two to close the door.

The two will wrap up the two-game set tomorrow, March 18 at SCC. Due to the the extreme heat advisory, first pitch will be at 11 a.m.
