SCC Drop Their First Game of the Season

The Scottsdale Community College Fighting Artichokes dropped their first game of the season to Midland College 67-50 Thursday night.

Story by Joran Palacio

The Artichokes' (1-1) played well defensively throughout the game but could not overcome their offensive struggles against the Chaparrals who maintained a lead throughout the game.

SCC only trailed by four points at the end of the first quarter and even ended the period on a 4-0 scoring run.

In the early second quarter the Artichokes even cut the Midland College lead down to three, but that would be as close as they got for the night the Chaparrals would quickly extend the lead to eight.

Scottsdale forced 24 turnovers in Thursday's game good enough for six per quarter, but the 'Chokes only could muster 20 points by the halftime break.

#14 Victoria Perez and #11 Paulina Silcox (SO/Las Vegas, Nevada) both led the way for SCC when it came to scoring as they both racking up 12 points. #31 Alisyn Slinsen (FR/Napa Valley, California) also contributed seven points of her own.

The Artichokes are .500 to start their opening week of the season and will return to the court Monday night when they take on Benedictine-JV at 5 p.m.

Next week will conclude with a matchup with Utah State University-Eastern on Nov.15 which will tip at 7:30 p.m.
