Fourth Ranked SCC Volleyball Team Loses to Cross-Town Rivals

The no. 4 ranked Artichokes suffered a tough loss Tuesday night in five sets to no. 9 ranked Glendale Community College at SCC's North Gym.

After winning the first set 25-20, the Chokes lost the next two sets 19-25 and 22-25. The Artichokes battled back in the fourth set, winning 25-23. The rivals went head-to-head in the final set before the Gauchos broke through, winning 15-8.

"You never want to lose, but they are a well-coached team," said SCC Coach Regina Mannix , whose team is now 14-3 for the season. "It was a good loss and a good learning experience for our team."

Victoria Fajardo led the Chokes with 19 kills in the match. Tineille Waggoner had 48 assists and 12 digs.

The team will try to bounce back tonight when it travels to Prescott to face the Yavapai College Roughriders. The Lady 'Chokes return to town to play at Phoenix College on Friday at 7 p.m.
