(Scottsdale, AZ) Scottsdale Community College's volleyball team started fast on Wednesday night. The Artichokes (19-5) started the first set on an 8-2 run and never looked back. With the score at 15-10 and visiting Chandler Gilbert looking to climb back into the set, Scottsdale used a huge 7-0 run to extend its lead up to 22-10 and force Chandler Gilbert to use their first timeout. The damage was done however and Scottsdale won the first set 25-13.

With the second set tied at 3, Scottsdale used another one of its runs, this time a 5-0 run, to go up quickly 8-3. They didn't waste any time adding on to that by following it up with another impressive 4-0 run to take control of the set at 12-4.They would eventually stretch that lead to 20-8 forcing a Chandler Gilbert timeout. Not going away quietly the Coyotes would try to make some noise of their own going on a 5-0 run to make the score 23-14 before the Artichokes put the set away with a 25-14 win.

Set three began with the Artichokes building a 7-2 lead early in the match. For a while it looked as if Scottsdale would coast to an easy three set victory. Chandler Gilbert had other plans. Down 14-11 the Coyotes would make their run eventually tying the match at 17 and taking their first lead of the night at 20-19. After Scottsdale tied it up at 20, the Coyotes again used a 3-0 run looking to extend the match to a 4th game going up 23-20. Head Coach Regina Mannix would burn her 2nd timeout to rally the troops. It worked. Scottsdale would regroup and tie the score at 23. After trading a couple points Sophmore Mary Guck had her biggest kill of the night which set up Freshman Chandler Hillman with the match closing ace.

When asked about tonight's match, and overall her two years as an Artichoke, an emotional Guck replied, "We played with intensity and had fun, which helped. My 2 years here have been a blast, I have learned a ton, and I can't wait to see how everything I have learned here will help me at the next place I go."

Before the match Scottsdale honored their six sophomores. Selina Petrosky, Mary Guck, Taylor Hamlet,

Tineille Waggoner, Madison Clement, and Victoria Fajardo.
